What Is IXPE Foam Underlay? Benefits, Specs & Applications for Modern Flooring

IXPE Foam Underlay is commonly referred to as "IXPE foam mat," "electron-beam irradiated cross-linked polyethylene flooring underlayment," or "IXPE flooring acoustic mat." Positioned as a premium-grade underlayment material, it is widely used beneath SPC flooring, WPC flooring, LVT, laminate flooring, engineered wood flooring, and even some carpet installations.
What is it?
IXPE stands for Irradiated Cross-linked Polyethylene. Compared to standard EPE foam, IXPE features a finer cell structure, superior resilience, greater resistance to compression set over time, and a higher level of environmental safety.
Key Benefits
Sound Insulation & Noise Reduction: Effectively reduces footstep noise, impact sound, and floor friction noise, making it ideal for multi-story spaces such as apartments, hotels, and office buildings.
Cushioning & Shock Absorption: Enhances underfoot comfort, reduces stress on flooring locking systems, and extends the service life of the floor.
Moisture Protection: Its closed-cell structure ensures low water absorption. Moisture resistance can be further enhanced by laminating with PE film, aluminum film, or aluminum foil.
Radiant Heating Compatible: Provides uniform heat conduction, making it suitable for underfloor heating systems without excessive heat loss.
Eco-Friendly & Safe: Free from residual chemical cross-linking agents and low in odor.
